Description
"Once upon a time there were two stepsisters. Both had blue eyes, like their father, but one was a redhead while the other was blonde. Their names were Leah and Mae, and they lived in a beautiful castle with Mae’s mother, a vain, cruel widow. While Mae was a girl who was always surrounded by her maids, Leah was left to do all the housework. Every day she would sit outside the cottage and spin beside the well while she saw her sister play and ride her horse, Malum.
One day, Leah pricked her finger on the point of the spindle. Leaning over a near well to wash the blood away, the spindle fell from her hand and sank out of sight. Crying, she told what happened to her stepmother, and the woman, a very cruel woman, scolded her. The girl, run and leapt into the well after the spindle. Hours later, the girl found herself in another world. Walking through the beautiful scenery, she came to an oven full of bread, which screamed to get out of the oven. Leah, with the shovel, took out the loaves. Continuing her way, she saw an apple tree who shouted, in turn: "Shake me, shake me! All apples are already red." After shaking it, she went ahead. Finally she came to a house, where the Blue Fairy asked Leah to help her in the housework. The Blue Fairy was so impressed by the girl's kindness and industry that she escorted her back to her world covered with gold so she could scape from her stepmother’s house.
The mother, knowing what had happened to Leah, sent the Mae down the well to work for the Blue Fairy. Copying her stepsister, Mae bloodied her finger and leapt into the well. But the selfish girl refused to help the burning bread, explaining that she would get dirty, and she didin’t shake the overladen apple tree or help the Blue Fairy neither, so the old woman reproved her idle nature by sending her home covered with pitch. Mae, ashamed and scared of what would her mother say, ran away to a distant forest. After spending weeks lost, she found a fortress where lived a blind witch.
Years passed and Mae (now called Maleficent) had learned witchcraft and became the Mistress of All Evil. When she learnt that Leah was now the queen and had had a baby, she traveled to the queen’s castle and cursed the newborn. Aurora, the little girl, would prick her hand on a spindle too."
